It is with great pleasure we can announce that our three abattoirs – Colne, Spalding and Turriff have been awarded the new ‘Welfare of Animals at the Time of Killing’ (WATOK) qualification.
“We are proud to be the first retailer whose colleagues have attained the qualification. The welfare of animals is incredibly important to us and we are continuing to lead the way in ensuring that
every animal that passes through our abattoirs is treated with the highest standard of care,” says Tony Higginson, the Senior Animal Welfare Manager, who is now a certified WATOK assessor.
This qualification has been introduced to comply with EU regulations, aiming to improve skills and knowledge in the
food industry, and to reiterate the competence of individuals, to ensure the highest possible standard of animal welfare at the point of slaughter.
